Frequently Asked Questions

Is the LUNA accurate?
When used and interpreted correctly, the LUNA is effective for
determining the estrogen burst prior to ovulation. By charting your patterns daily and using the fertility cycle chart included, you can ensure the reliability of the system.

Is it expensive?
The suggested price of the Luna is $74.95 and it comes complete with the reusable Luna saliva test, a digital thermometer, 5 LH urine tests, 2 HCG pregnancy tests, charts and complete instructions.

Where can I purchase the Luna?
The Luna is available at major pharmacies and drug stores, a complete list is available here. The Luna may also be purchased online and there is no charge for shipping to most places in the world.

"I don't think I have a regular cycle, can I still use the LUNA"
Yes. In fact before you set up an appointment with a fertility specialist you can use the LUNA to determine what your cycle looks like. Fertility cycles average 28 days, but can range from 23 to 40 days. By using the LUNA every morning and plotting the results on the fertility chart, you will know exactly what stage you are at in your cycle. You can use these results to aid your healthcare professional and determine any irregularities in your cycle.

What is the best time to use the LUNA?
For best results, you should use the LUNA first thing in the morning prior to brushing your teeth or drinking juice, etc. Do not consume any water, alcohol, sugars, food or cigarettes for at least 2 hours prior to taking the test. Your test results will be affected causing false positives. Testing can also be done with cervical mucus and it is not necessary to abstain from eating or drinking two hours prior.

I am currently on the birth control pill, can I use the LUNA?
No. The LUNA cannot be used properly with any hormonal methods of birth control, i.e. the Pill, Norplant, etc. You may wish to wait until you have had two normal periods without any hormonal contraceptives before starting to use the LUNA.

What could interfere with my test result?
If you are actually pregnant, have recently been pregnant, or have reached menopause, you may get a misleading result. Any prescription drug or plant extract that artificially changes the estrogen level will affect your Luna readings. Please consult your health care provider to determine what affect these drugs may have.

I have used the LUNA for three months and I am still not pregnant?
It is important to remember that it can take a normal, healthy couple many months to become pregnant. There are many factors that affect your ability to become pregnant even if you have been able to have intercourse during your most fertile time. If after several months you have no success, consult your healthcare provider. Since you have been monitoring your cycle with the LUNA, you will be able to give your healthcare provider a clear picture of your fertility cycle.

When can I start to use the LUNA?
You can start to use the LUNA at any time in your cycle. You will want to start charting on the first day of bleeding of your menstrual cycle.

Does the LUNA protect against sexually transmissible diseases or AIDS?
No. The LUNA does not protect you from any sexually transmitted diseases or the HIV virus.

How do I clean my LUNA?
DO NOT run your Luna under water as moisture can get inside and it will not give you clear results. Simply wipe with a moist cloth or Q-tip and dry with the enclosed lint free cloth.

If I am pregnant what pattern will I see?
The LUNA will not show any specific pattern if you are pregnant. Some women see continuous ferning after ovulation while others see only the infertile pattern.

Why is charting important ?
The Luna Fertility Kit is a complete Kit, which means, it includes all of the tools for comprehensive charting of your fertility cycle. The chart includes information pertaining to saliva, estrogen, temperature, luteinizing hormone, cervical mucous, cervical position, stress, illness and medications. This is the information required by a healthcare provider to determine therapies for women having difficulty achieving pregnancy. Complete charts can provide a world of information by identifying reasons for infertility, an accurate conception date or even a shift in your overall health.

Why should I use the thermometer as well as the Luna?
Prior to ovulation you experience an estrogen burst which is detected by the Luna. But after ovulation, the ovarian follicle that released the egg secretes another hormone called progesterone. Progesterone causes the basal body temperature to rise and the cervical mucous to thicken. In order for your healthcare provider to interpret your cycle, a comprehensive chart must include both.
