The Luna Fertility Kit

You can start the using the Luna Saliva Test any day of the month but you will start charting on day one of your cycle.  Remember, ovulation triggers your period.  Once you have ovulated you should, typically, start your period 14 – 17 days later, no matter how long your cycle is.

Let’s say you purchase Baby Steps and start charting on day one and let’s assume you have a 28 day cycle.  Start using the Luna Saliva Tester and the Luna Basal Body Thermometer on day one.

On or around day 10 – 12 you will start to see a ferning or snowflake pattern on the Luna Saliva Tester.  This indicates that the estrogen level is rising and you are nearing ovulation.  After 2 consecutive days of ferning, you can take a Luna LH urine ovulation test, if the test is positive then you know that you will ovulate in 12 – 24 hours.  It is not necessary to plan intercourse for every day as sperm can survive 24 – 72 hours.

The following day you will notice a spike in your basal body temperature, this indicates that ovulation is complete.  After 14 days, you can take a Luna HCG urine pregnancy test and determine whether you are picking baby names or planning for another month of charting.

Remember, this is just an overview and it can take a healthy couple many months to become pregnant.  There are many factors that affect your ability to become pregnant even if you have been able to plan intercourse during your most fertile time.  Always consult your healthcare provider.

Every Baby Steps Kit includes:

  • One re-useable Luna Saliva Test – this test is based on a natural human phenomenon called the hormone/saliva phenomenon. At ovulation, a woman's most fertile time, your body experiences elevated estrogen allowing an egg to be released. At the same time, the elevated estrogen creates saline or salt in your saliva. It is these salt crystals that you see drying on the Luna.  The Luna Saliva Test looks like a travel toothbrush and can be used any private place with access to clear light. Simply lick the clean slide, allow it to dry, about 10 minutes, then hold it up to the light. The crystal patterns will reveal whether or not you are fertile at this time. You will be begin to see these patterns form:
Infertile
Pattern (N)
Pre/Post Ovulatory
Pattern (P)

Ovulatory
Pattern (F)
  • 5 Luna LH Urine Ovulation Test Strips – this is a qualitative test that can predict when there is a luteinizing hormone (LH) surge and, in turn, when you are likely to ovulate.  When you see the ferning pattern on the Luna, you should use a Luna LH Urine Ovulation Test Strip.

  • Basal Body Thermometer – taking your temperature can be a hassle but it provides a vital piece of information when you are trying to detect ovulation.  After ovulation, the ovarian follicle that released the egg secretes another hormone called progesterone which suppresses further ovulation.  Once your temperature has spiked, ovulation is over.  There is no need to continue with the Luna LH Urine Ovulation Test Strips.  Now you have to wait 14 days to take the Luna HCG Urine Pregnancy Test.

  • 2 Luna HCG Urine Pregnancy Test Strips -  this is a qualitative test that detects the presence of HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin) in urine within 14 days of conception.
  • An informative 18 page instruction booklet with a comprehensive chart.
